The year 2023 started with minister Simone Tebet, in charge of Planning and Budget, supporting the effort to finish the 2022 Census data collection phase in Indigenous Lands and in the favelas and urban communities. During the year, the results of the 2022 Census for the Quilombolas, Indigenous Populations, age and sex and color and race were disclosed.
In 2023, the IBGE celebrated the tenth anniversary of the Continuous PNAD, the 70th anniversary of the National School of Statistical Sciences – ENCE, and the 50th anniversary of the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production - LSPA.
The inauguration of economist Marcio Pochmann as President of the IBGE, in August, introduced a new institutional stage, marked by democratic and participatory management. All servants were invited to debate the future of the Institute in the IBGE 90 Years Dialogue Project, which resulted in 12 guidelines that will drive the Institute over the next three years, until its 90th anniversary in 2026.
Along with the internal changes, external partnerships, wether national or international, were established or resumed with UN Agencies, statistical organizations, other institutions and universities, in order to bring the IBGE closer to society and qualify it to face the challenges of producing public statistics in contemporary society.
According to the IBGE release calendar, 145 releases and 283 news were produced and distributed, 93 in the IBGE section, 137 in the Economic Statistics section, 38 in the Social Statistics section and 15 in the Geosciences section, in addition to 39 IBGE Minutes (Minutos IBGE), videos, infographics and images.
This year, the content of the retrospective was decided by the audience, by means of the 10 most accessed news stories in each section of the IBGE News Agency in Portuguese. With 185,682 views (in the Portuguese version), the news "Between 2010 and 2022, Brazilian population grows 6.5%, reaches 203.1 million" was the most accessed one in 2023.
