Statistics (IBGE), Rio Grande do Sul hosted, on June 18, the seminar “My State, My Brazil, Our IBGE”, held in Porto Alegre. The meeting took place from 1 pm to 5 pm, in the auditorium of the SERPRO Superintendency, bringing together active and retired officials, as well as institutional representatives.

The initiative is part of a series of seminars promoted in all the Federation Units, with the aim of expanding institutional dialogue, valuing local experiences and highlighting the role of the IBGE in producing essential information for Brazil. In the case of Rio Grande do Sul, the program focused on the Institute's trajectory in the state, with an emphasis on institutional memory and recognition of the contributions of its officials over the decades.

The opening session of the event was led by the state superintendent of the IBGE in Rio Grande do Sul, Luis Eduardo Puchalski. Then, the coordinator of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination and Social Communication (CDDI/CCS), José Daniel Castro, highlighted the national nature of the celebrations. “There are several events being held to portray the history of the IBGE in the states. We are organizing this set of actions into nine thematic axes, which will be transformed into publications. The memory is alive, and all these events are being recorded and registered as the result of collective work,” stated him.

The seminar featured a structured program in different thematic areas, reflecting the diversity of activities developed by the Institute throughout its history, such as administrative, data collection, dissemination, geosciences, partnerships, surveys, superintendencies and branches, technology, and training and qualification.

The lectures were led by retired officials, who shared experiences accumulated in different areas of the IBGE. Among the participants were Elis Regina Manhabosco Allegranzi, former head of the IBGE branch in Ijuí, addressing topics related to state superintendencies, branches and training; Sérgio Murilo Pereira Gil, former head of the sector of IT Services at SES/RS, with a presentation on data collection and technology; Ernesto Dornelles Saraiva, former administrative manager, dealing with administrative aspects and partnerships; and Ademir Barbosa Koucher, former head of the dissemination area in the state, who presented reflections on the dissemination of information.

Former IBGE superintendent in the state, José Renato Braga de Almeida highlighted the role of officials in the construction of institutional history. “I would like to talk about the importance of the main actors in this process. We are celebrating the people who built this history. When we look at a survey, a map or the results of a census, we see numbers, but behind them, there are faces, trajectories and challenges. It is a story marked by dedication and commitment to public service,” highlighted him.

The State Thematic Seminars are part of the agenda commemorating the 90 years of the IBGE and seek to highlight how the institution is built nationally based on the singularities of each state, strengthening partnerships and preserving the memory of its activities throughout the Brazilian territory.
