The preliminary inflation figure for June was 0.41%, 0.21 percentage points lower than the May rate (0.62%). The Food and Beverages (0.74% and 0.16 pp) and Housing (0.72% and 0.11 pp) groups contributed positively to the overall result, accounting for approximately 66% of the month's outcome. The Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15), released today (25) by the IBGE, also indicates a cumulative rise of 3.45% for the year and 4.80% over the last 12 months—up from the 4.64% observed in the preceding 12-month period. In June 2025, the IPCA-15 stood at 0.26%. The IPCA-E, which represents the quarterly accumulated IPCA-15, stood at 1.93%.
Among the products and services surveyed by the IBGE for the IPCA-15 calculation, the greatest impacts on the overall index came from residential electricity (2.04% and 0.08 pp), potatoes (29.42% and 0.06 pp), airfares (7.24% and 0.05 pp), tomatoes (17.27% and 0.05 pp), personal hygiene products (1.03% and 0.04 pp), and carioca beans (14.29% and 0.02 pp). Among the sub-items with negative impacts this month, notable examples included gasoline (-0.73% and -0.04 pp), ethanol (-5.30% and -0.04 pp), voluntary vehicle insurance (-3.40% and -0.03 pp), ground coffee (-3.69% and -0.02 pp), and fruit (-0.96% and -0.01 pp).
Food at home went from 1.73% in May to 0.87% in June. Contributing to this result were price increases for potatoes (29.42%), tomatoes (17.27%), carioca beans (14.29%), and onions (9.54%). The sub-items tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes more than doubled in price during the first half of the year, with accumulated increases of 103.84%, 103.10%, and 100.20%, respectively. On the downside, ground coffee (-3.69%) and fruit (-0.96%) stood out.
Prices in the Housing group decelerated from 1.03% in May to 0.72% in June. Residential electricity rose by 2.04%, representing the single largest impact on the June result (0.08 pp); this was driven by the implementation of the "yellow" tariff flag—involving an additional charge of R$ 1.885 per 100 kWh consumed—and tariff rises in some of the surveyed areas. In the Health and Personal Care group (0.47%), notable increases were seen in personal hygiene products (1.03%) and health insurance plans; the 0.35% change in the latter reflects the incorporation of a 5.11% price adjustment authorized by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS), effective in May 2026.
In the Transportation group (-0.03%), there were increases in airfares (7.24%), urban bus fares (1.18%), and new cars (0.42%). Among the declines, fuel prices stood out in terms of impact (-1.22% and -0.08 percentage points).
In June, the highest change was recorded in Brasília (0.93%), while the lowest was in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Salvador (0.28%).
Among the 11 locations where prices are collected for the IPCA-15 calculation, the sharpest rise was recorded in Brasília (0.93%), driven by increases in airfares (11.05%) and gasoline prices (3.62%). The lowest result (0.28%) was observed in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Salvador. In Rio, notable declines occurred in accommodation costs (-5.98%) and voluntary vehicle insurance (-4.69%). In Curitiba, the most significant drops were in vehicle registration and licensing fees (-4.83%) and gasoline prices (-1.05%). In Salvador, the main declines were in ground coffee (-5.00%) and gasoline (-1.53%).
More about the survey
To calculate the IPCA-15, prices were collected between May 16 and June 16 (reference period) and compared with those in effect from April 16 to May 15, 2026 (base period). The indicator covers households with an income of 1 to 40 minimum wages and encompasses the Metropolitan Areas of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, São Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador, and Curitiba, as well as Brasília and the municipality of Goiânia. The methodology used is the same as that of the IPCA; the difference lies in the price collection period and the geographical scope. For full results, please access the Sidra database. The next release of the IPCA-15 is scheduled for July 28, 2026.
