IPCA-15 is 0.41% in June

The Extended National Consumer Price Index-15 (IPCA-15) stood at 0.41% in June, 0.21 percentage points (pp) below the rate for May (0.62%). The IPCA-E—which represents the quarterly cumulative IPCA-15—stood at 1.93%, above the 1.05% rate recorded in the same period of 2025. For the half-year, the IPCA-15 shows a cumulative rise of 3.45%, and a 12-month rise of 4.80%, exceeding the 4.64% observed in the preceding 12 months. In June 2025, the IPCA-15 was 0.26%.

Among the nine groups of products and services surveyed, Food and beverages stand out with the largest change (0.74%) and impact (0.16 pp), followed by Housing (0.72% and 0.11 pp). Together, these two groups account for approximately 66% of the month's result. The remaining groups ranged from a 0.03% drop in Transportation to a 0.47% rise in Health and personal care.

The Food and Beverages group slowed down from May (1.38%) to June (0.74%), standing out as the group with the largest change and impact (0.16 pp). Food at home went from 1.73% in May to 0.87% in June, driven notably by price increases in potatoes (29.42%), tomatoes (17.27%), carioca beans (14.29%), and onions (9.54%). The sub-items tomatoes, carrots, and potatoes more than doubled in price during the first half of the year, with cumulative increases of 103.84%, 103.10%, and 100.20%, respectively. Notable price drops included ground coffee (-3.69%) and fruit (-0.96%).
Food away from home went from 0.51% in May to 0.40% in June. Meals (0.39%) showed a lower change than in the previous month (0.57%), while snacks rose from 0.37% to 0.45% over the same period.
The Housing group slowed from 1.03% in May to 0.72% in June. Residential electricity rose by 2.04%, representing the main individual impact on the month's result (0.08 pp). In addition to the implementation of the "yellow" tariff flag—which entails an extra charge of R$ 1.885 for every 100 kWh consumed—the increase reflects the incorporation of the following tariff rises: 5.21% in Belo Horizonte (3.53%), effective on May 28; and 3.86% in Recife (3.44%), effective on April 29; 5.59% in Fortaleza (1.81%) and 4.78% in Salvador (2.18%), both effective as of April 22.
Still within the Housing group, the water and sewage fees (0.35%) reflect the following increases: 2.52% in Curitiba (2.44%), effective on May 17, and 3.97% in Brasília (1.99%), effective on June 1. Regarding the piped gas sub-item, the 0.13% change resulted from a combination of a 3.00% average increase starting May 1 and a 2.00% average reduction on June 1, both in Rio de Janeiro (0.44%).
In the Health and Personal Care group (0.47%), personal hygiene items (1.03%) stand out—particularly the perfume sub-item (2.22%)—as does health insurance; the latter's 0.35% change reflects the incorporation of a 5.11% increase authorized by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS) for plans contracted after Law No. 9,656/98, effective as of May 2026.
In the Transportation group (-0.03%), the positive changes in airfares (7.24% and 0.05 pp), urban bus (1.18% and 0.01 pp), and new cars (0.42% and 0.01 pp) are offset by the drop in fuel prices (-1.22% and -0.08 pp) in terms of impact.
Regarding urban buses (1.18%), changes occurred due to free fares or fare reductions on Sundays in São Paulo (-1.09%) and Salvador (-0.54%), as well as reductions or free fares on public holidays in Belo Horizonte (7.20%), Belém (7.07%), Brasília (7.05%), Curitiba (3.15%), and Fortaleza (0.19%).
Among fuels (-1.22%), only vehicular gas (3.78%) recorded an increase in average prices. Ethanol (-5.30%) and gasoline (-0.73%) were the sub-items with the greatest negative impact on the index (-0.04 pp each), while diesel fuel fell by 1.47% in June.

Regarding regional indices, the largest change was recorded in Brasília (0.93%), driven by increases in airfares (11.05%) and gasoline prices (3.62%). Conversely, the lowest result (0.28%) was observed in Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, and Salvador. In Rio de Janeiro, notable decreases occurred in lodging costs (-5.98%) and voluntary vehicle insurance (-4.69%). In Curitiba, the most significant drops were in vehicle registration and licensing fees (-4.83%) and gasoline prices (-1.05%). In Salvador, the main declines were in ground coffee (-5.00%) and gasoline (-1.53%).
To calculate the IPCA-15, prices were collected between May 16 and June 16 (reference period) and compared with those in effect from April 16 to May 15 (base period). The indicator covers households with incomes ranging from 1 to 40 minimum wages and encompasses the Metropolitan Areas of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Recife, São Paulo, Belém, Fortaleza, Salvador, and Curitiba, as well as Brasília and the municipality of Goiânia. The methodology used is the same as that of the IPCA; the difference lies in the price collection period and the geographical scope.
