Construction prices change by 0.27% in October, second lowest result in the year

In October, the National Index of Civil Construction (SINAPI) changed by 0.27%. The rate is 0.23 percentage points (p.p) below that of September, which was 0.50%. That was one of the lowest results in the year, being second to the rate recorded in February (0.23%). The cumulative index in 12 montghs stood at 5.30%, a result below the 5.58% recorded in the previous 12 months. In October 2024, the index was 0.53%. Data were released today (11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The national cost of construction, by square meter, closed September at R$ 1,872.24, and changed to R$ 1,877.29 in October, being R$ 1,071.42 relative to material and R$ 805.87 to workforce.

The share of materials changed by 0.31%, and decreased both against the previous month (0.38%), and against the index of October 2024 (0.79%), 0.07 and 0.48 percentage points, respectively. 

“Workforce, with only one collective agreement considered, changed by 0.22%, with a drop of 0.43 percentage points from September (0.65%). In relation to October 2024 (0.16%), there was an increase of 0.06 percentage points,” explains Augusto Oliveira, manager of the survey.

From January to October, the results were: 3.52% (materials) and 6.65% (workforce). The cumulative index in 12 months stood at 4.29% for materials and 6.73% for workforce.

North Region records the highest monthly change in October 

The North Region, with increases in all the states, driven by the increase in professional categories in the state of Pará, recorded the highest regional change in October, 0.95%. The other Major Regions had the following results: 0.27% (Northeast), 0.15% (Southeast), 0.20% (South) and 0.21% (Central West).

With collective agreements effected for professional categories, Pará was the state recording the highest rate in October, 1.84%.
