Luisa Marini, who teaches Mathematics at the primary school of Colégio Bandeirantes (SP) and is responsible for two groups of winners in category A, explained that promoting statistical literacy in schools is essential to help students develop their decision making abilities, analyze data critically and make decisions based on evidence. “The Competition plays a very important role in the school, because it shows students the importance of the knowledge acquired in the school when applied to real life, put into practice. By investigating, interpreting and communicating their findings, the students feel challenged, motivated, and, above all, relevant. The experience leads to a feeling of protagonism, and proves they can generate relevant knowledge and participate in discussions that are in tune with society."

A group of national researchers experienced in the field of statistical education, appointed by the coordinators of the International Statistical Literacy Project, was responsible for the selection and analysis of the posters.
