The production of hen eggs hit one more record and reached 964.89 million dozens in the third quarter of 2019. According to the Statistics of the Livestock Production, released today (12) by the IBGE, the production stood 4.3% above that reported in the same period in 2018 and 0.7% above the second quarter. Almost all the major activities grew in relation to the same period in 2018 and to the second quarter.
The production of hen eggs in the third quarter of 2019 was the biggest one in the time series of the survey started in 1987, being the second consecutive peak in the year. The extra 40.16 million dozens compared with the third quarter of 2018 were leveraged by increases in 21 Federation Units.
"The third quarter of 2019 registered an increase in the exports of beef over the second one, which affects the price of meat and takes the population to replace it, leading to the increase of the demand for eggs", commented Bernardo Viscardi, a researcher of the IBGE. Between July and September 2019, the IPCA recorded a retraction of 0.4% in the price of eggs, whereas the official inflation was of 0.26% in the period.
According to data from the Secretariat of Foreign Trade - Secex, the exported volume of beef increased 13.2%, followed by a rise of 21.8% in the revenue in relation to the immediately previous quarter. The IBGE´s Statistics of Livestock Production reported a rise of 2.1% in cattle slaughter compared with the third quarter of 2018 and of 7% over the previous quarter.
The third quarter of 2018 was atypical, since it was the period after the drivers´ strike, in which the activities were resumed. Nevertheless, the survey also reported rises in the hogs and pigs (0.9%) and chicken slaughter (3.1%), as well as in the acquisition of milk (0.6%) and in the production of hen eggs (4.3%). On the other hand, leather acquisition fell 5.7%.
Compared with the second quarter, all the livestock production posted a significant increase: 2.7% in hogs and pigs slaughter, 3.3% in chicken slaughter, 2.4% in the acquisition of leather and 7.5% in the acquisition of raw milk, the last one also hitting a record in this quarter.
"It is possible to perceive the cyclical behavior in the milk sector, in which the third quarters recover the acquisition in relation to the previous quarter, leveraged by the initial harvest in some of the dairies in Brazil. Yet, the current result represents a milestone in the time series for the period", explained the IBGE researcher.
