Cattle slaughter declines 8.2% and chicken slaughter falls 1.2% in Q4, but slaughter of hogs and pigs grows 5.8%

The slaughter of cattle fell by 8.2% and that of chickens by 1.2%, while that of pigs and hogs rose by 5.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021, compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the preliminary results of the Livestock Production Statistics, released today (February 10) by the IBGE. The complete results for the fourth quarter of 2021 and for the Federation Units will be released on March 15, 2022.
According to preliminary data, the number of cattle head slaughtered in the quarter was 6.77 million, while hogs and pigs, and chicken slaughters registered 13.29 million and 1.54 billion head, respectively.
In relation to the third quarter of last year, the decline in the slaughter of cattle was 2.5%. The slaughter of pigs fell by 3.2%, while that of chickens had a positive change of 0.3%.
In the 4th quarter of 2021, of the total number of cattle slaughtered, the preliminary result points to a production of 1.87 million metric tons of bovine carcasses, a decrease of 5.7% compared to the same quarter of the previous year and of 0.8% in compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.
Regarding hogs and pigs, the cumulative weight of carcasses reached 1.21 million metric tons, up 7.9% from the 4th quarter of 2020 and down 4.8% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.
The weight of chicken carcasses was 3.68 million metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2021. In the annual comparison, there was an increase of 2.9% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020, and compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021, the advance was of 1.1%.
The acquisition of raw milk made by establishments that operate under municipal, state or federal health inspection was 6.42 billion liters, with a decrease of 5.7% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and an increase of 3.6% in the comparison with the preceding quarter.
The production of hen eggs reached 977.6 million dozen, which corresponds to a reduction of 1.8% in the annual comparison and of 2.4% in the quarterly comparison.
The survey also shows that tanneries that tan at least five thousand whole units of raw bovine hide per year declared to have received 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide in the 4th quarter of 2021. This amount was 8, 2% lower compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and 3.9% compared to the previous quarter.
