Cattle and chicken slaughter falls and slaughter of hogs and pigs increases in Q4 2021

The first results of the Quarterly Livestock Surveys in the 4th quarter of 2021 indicate that, compared to the same quarter of 2020, cattle slaughter fell by 8.2%, that of hogs and pigs increased by 5.8% and that of chickens had a decrease of 1.2%. Compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021, the slaughter of cattle fell by 2.5% and that of hogs and pigs, by 3.2%, while that of chickens had a positive change of 0.3%. The acquisition of milk was 6.42 billion liters, with a decrease of 5.7% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and an increase of 3.6% against the previous quarter. The acquisition of hide by tanneries fell by 8.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and was 3.9% lower than that of the 3rd quarter of 2021, totaling 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide. 977.6 million dozen chicken eggs were produced in the 4th quarter of 2021, down 1.8% year-on-year and 2.4% against the previous quarter.

Cattle slaughter declines in both comparisons

In the 4th quarter of 2021, 6.77 million cattle head were slaughtered under some type of sanitary inspection service. This amount represented negative changes of 8.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and 2.5% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.

The production of 1.87 million metric tons of cattle carcasses in the 4th quarter of 2021 consisted of a decrease of 5.7% in relation to the same quarter of the previous year and a reduction of 0.8% in relation to the amound recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Slaughter of hogs and pigs grows year-on-year and falls compared to the previous quarter

In the 4th quarter of 2021, 13.29 million hogs and pigs were slaughtered, representing an increase of 5.8% compared to the same period in 2020 and a decrease of 3.2% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.

The cumulative carcass weight recorded 1.21 million metric tons in Q4 2021, which was a 7.9% increase compared to Q4 2020 and a 4.8% decrease compared to the preceding quarter.

Chicken slaughter drops 1.2% year-on-year

Chicken slaughter in the 4th quarter of 2021 totaled 1.54 billion chicken heads. This result meant a decrease of 1.2% compared to the equivalent quarter of the previous year and an increase of 0.3% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.

The cumulative weight of carcasses was 3.68 million metric tons in the 4th quarter of 2021. This total meant an increase of 2.9% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and an increase of 1.1% compared to the previous quarter.

Milk acquisition declines 5.7% in the annual comparison and totals 6.42 billion liters

In the 4th quarter of 2021, the purchase of raw milk made by establishments under some type of sanitary inspection was 6.42 billion liters, with a decrease of 5.7% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and an increase of 3.6% compared to that obtained in the immediately previous quarter.

Leather acquisition is 8.2% lower than in Q4 2021

In the 4th quarter of 2021, the tanneries investigated by the Quarterly Leather Survey – those tanning at least five thousand whole units of cattle rawhide per year – declared to have received 7.08 million whole pieces of rawhide. This amount represents a retraction of 8.2% compared to the 4th quarter of 2020 and 3.9% compared to the previous quarter.

Hen egg production drops in both comparisons

The production of hen eggs was 977.6 million dozen in the 4th quarter of 2021. The result shows a decrease of 1.8% compared to the same period in 2020 and a decrease of 2.4% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2021.
