The President of the IBGE, Roberto Olinto Ramos, signed today a covenant between the IBGE and the Brazilian Agribusiness Association - ABAG, aiming at getting the support from the major Brazilian agricultural organizations and enterprises for the operations of the 2017 Census of Agriculture. The document was signed in the end of this morning, Monday August 7, in São Paulo, during the 16th Congress of ABAG.

As one of the most traditional and important meetings of the sector, the congress gathered more than two thousand participants, among rural producers and heads of class associations. More than a hundred journalists from all over the country registered to cover the event.

After signing the covenant, together with the President of ABAG, Luiz Carlos Corrêa Carvalho, the President of the IBGE reinforced the need to access administrative records in Brazil. "I recall that each one of you is visited by the Federal Revenue and, months later, by the IBGE, asking exactly the same question. They are two federal databases that don´t speak with each other".

In the press conference after the signature of the covenant, Roberto Olinto reminded that the cooperation between the society and the official statistical offices is a reality in a number of countries: "There are no political decisions without information. Yet the production of these data should be enhanced, counting on the participation of an increasingly number of informants", concluded him.

To reinforce the importance of the Census of Agriculture, the IBGE launched last Friday, August 4, a thematic website, gathering major information on the survey. Click here to access it.
