The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) signed on Friday, June 12, a technical cooperation agreement with the National Institute of Educational Studies and Surveys Anísio Teixeira (Inep), with a focus on strengthening the production and use of statistical and educational information in Brazil. The initiative represents a strategic advance for improving educational indicators and monitoring public policies, especially in the context of the new National Education Plan (PNE 2026–2036).

Recognized as a national reference in the production of official data and statistics, the IBGE now contributes directly to expanding the information base used in educational studies and analyses. With the partnership, Inep will be able to further qualify its surveys by integrating IBGE structured data and consolidated methodologies, strengthening knowledge production and decision-making in the educational sector.

During the signing of the agreement, the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, highlighted the structuring nature of the cooperation for the National Statistical System. “This is a partnership in favor of strengthening the databases necessary for Brazil to produce information in a collaborative and integrated way, putting this knowledge at the service of the Brazilian State. Our teams have a lot to learn from each other, and this partnership creates conditions to expand cooperation and generate new advances for Brazil,” stated him.

The collaboration will also allow important advances in the development of educational indicators with a greater level of disaggregation, contributing to more accurate monitoring of PNE goals over the next decade.

The president of Inep, Manuel Palacios, highlighted the relevance of the IBGE's technical support to expand the scope of educational surveys. “An agreement like this opens up space for studies that require IBGE’s own technologies and knowledge, significantly expanding our capabilities,” stated him.

Representatives of the two institutions also participated in the ceremony, including the head of Inep's Governance and Strategic Management Advisory, Isabel Chagas; the director of Educational Statistics, Fábio Bravin; and technical teams responsible for the development and dissemination of educational studies.
