IPCA-15 stays at 0.09% in July due to the fall of fuel prices

The Extended National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15) rose 0.09% in July after recording 0.06% in the previous month. The decrease in fuel prices pushed the index downwards once again, in spite of the rise of airfares and electricity.
In the year, the inflation preview had a cumulative increase of 2.42% and, in 12 months, of 3.27%, as released today by the IBGE.
The biggest negative influence of the July index was that of transportation, which fell 0.44% against July, reversing the rise of 0.25%, and accounting for a contribution of -0.08 percentage points.
Transportation also accounted for the main individual impacts downwards, due to the price of gasoline, with a decrease of 2.79%, and upwards, due to airfares, which rose 18.10%.
Other fuels also recorded fall of prices in July, with ethanol at -4.55%, diesel at -1.59% and fuel gas at -0.49%.
Housing, which rose 0.43%, accounted for the main positive influence of the IPCA, with 0.07 percentage points. The biggest impact was that of electricity (1.13%), the sixth hike in a row. The hike this month was due to the startt of the yellow tariff flag, which charges electricity bills R$ 1.50 more per each 100 Kw/h consumed.
Among the groups that form IPCA-15, food and beverages recorded a slight increase of 0.03%, after a decrease of 0.64% in June. The highlights were personal expenses (0.48%) and health and personal care (0.34%), with impacts of 0.05 and 0.04 percentage points, respectively.
The other groups ranged between a decrease of 0.19% in apparel and an increase of 0.14% in communication.
