The National Civil Construction Index (Sinapi), released today by the IBGE, increased 0.21% in February, falling 0.21 percentage points below January rate (0.42%). The result was driven by the cost of materials, which rose 0.55%, well above that rate recorded in January (0.19%). In the last 12 months, inflation in the sector has racked up 4.47%.
Conversely, the value of the labor force fell by 0.15% in relation to January, when the sector had exerted the main influence in the index increase due to three collective bargaining agreements. "This month there were no agreements, so labor force had no impact on the general costs of construction," explains the survey manager, Augusto Oliveira.
By region, the Southeast and the Central-West stood out, both with 0.28%. Among the states, Piauí had the highest monthly change, 0.98%, mostly due to the cost of wood.
The national cost of construction per square meter was R$1,120.99. The regional costs recorded were: R$1,124.34 (North); R$1,040.67 (Northeast); R$1,171.12 (Southeast); R$1,162.51 (South) and R$1,128.33 (Central-West).
