Construction prices change by 0.50% in September with decreases in materials and in workforce

In September, the National Index of Civil Construction (SINAPI) changed by 0.50%. This rate is 0.29 percentage points (p.p.) below the 0.79% recorded in August. The cumulative index over the last 12 months was 5.58%, a result higher than that of the previous 12 months (5.42%). In September 2024, the index was 0.35%. The data was released today (9) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

The national cost of construction by square meter, which closed at R$1,863.00 in August, increased to R$1,872.24 in September, with R$1,068.14 relative to materials and R$804.10 to workforce.

The share of materials changed by 0.38%, showing a drop both from the previous month (0.50%) and from the September 2024 index (0.49%), 0.12 and 0.11 percentage points respectively.

"Workforce, with fewer collective agreements signed against the previous month, recorded a 0.65% increase, a 0.53 percentage point decrease from August (1.18%) and a 0.49 percentage point increase from September 2024 (0.16%)," explains Augusto Oliveira, manager of the survey.

The third quarter of the year closed at 3.20% for materials and 6.42% for workforce. The 12-month cumulative total was 4.79% for materials and 6.66% for workforce.

Central-West Region records highest monthly change in September

The Central-West Region, with an increase in the share of materials in all states and influenced by the increase in professional categories in Mato Grosso,  had the biggest regional change in September, 1.90%. The other Major Regions recorded the following results: 0.26% (North), 0.66% (Northeast), 0.23% (Southeast), and 0.11% (South).

Mato Grosso records biggest increase in September

With an increase in the share of materials and a collective agreement signed in professional categories, Mato Grosso was the state that recorded the highest rate in September, 5.45%.
