Civil construction costs grow 0.11% in November

The National Index of Civil Construction (Sinap), released today by the IBGE, changed 0.11% in November, the lowest rate recorded in 2019 (the same rate as that of May). This indicator measures the national cost of the housing sector, which changed from R$1,155.01 to R$1,156.31 per square meter in October, with R$606.41 related to material and R$549.90 to labor force.
The index accumulates 3.80% in the year and 4.03% in the last 12 months. The share of materials recorded the lowest change in the year (0.17%) and, from January to November, it accumulates 4.67%. The share of labor force (0.05%) edged down (0.06 pp) in comparison both to the previous month and November 2018, accumulating 2.86% in the year.
The Central-West had increase in three states and was the highest change in November: 0.45%. Northeast (0.10%), Southeast (0.08%) and South (0.14%) recorded less expressive increases. Only North recorded a negative change, of 0.08%. The regional cost, per square meter, was: R$1,167.41 (North); R$1,065.52 (Northeast); R$1,205.14 (Southeast); R$1,222.41 (South) and R$1,163.57 (Central-West).
Goiás was the state that presented the highest monthly change, with an increase of 1.01%. “There was a local increase in the share of materials and the earnings adjustments of the state professional categories caused an impact too”, says the IBGE researcher Ms. Renata Estrela.
