In 2015, the companies from the services sector generated revenue of R$1.4 trillion – a result 2.4% below the performance of 2014. The drop was mostly influenced by the 4.2% shrank of the segment of transportation, support activities for transportation and mailing. The data are from the Annual Survey of Services (PAS) 2015 released today by the IBGE.

Luiz Andrés Paixão, IBGE researcher, mentions that in 2015 Brazil was undergoing a crisis and that the services sector is very sensible to such situations. "Services companies could not increase their prices in a year of low activity and high inflation", he declares.

Among the activities, road cargo transportation was the individual highlight in the revenue drop (-12.4%), due to the lower demand for both the outflow of production and the circulation of goods.

Labor market in service companies

In 2015, 12.7 million people worked in companies of the services sector. Compared to 2014, there was a 2.3% decline, which means a loss of 304,521 jobs. The segment that mostly contributed to this decrease was professional, administrative and complementary services (-3.4%, 178,174 less jobs). Among the activities, recruitment, selection and placement was the one with the biggest drop (-11.0%).

The monthly average salary stood at R$1.9 thousand, representing a contraction of 4.6% in relation to the previous year. Real state activities (-6.8%) and information services (-5.2%) were the segments with the greatest negative changes.
