Construction costs change by 0.36% in May and South Region stands out

The National Cost of Civil Construction Civil (Sinapi) advanced 0.36% in May, and stood 0.36 percentage points above the rate of April (0.72%). the cumulative index in the last 12 months was 6.93%, a result below that of the 12 immediately previous months (7.01%). The data were released today (12) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The index increased 3.26% in the year. In May 2025, the indicator was 2.00%.
The national cost of construction by square meter increased from R$ 1,946.09 in April to R$ 1,953.08 in May, with R$ 1,104.59 relative o material and R$ 848.49 to workforce.
Materials changed by 0.53%, and recorded a decrease of 0.30 percentage points from April (0.83%), and an increase of 0.02 percentage points from May 2025 (0.51%).
Workforce, with a rate of 0.14%, dropped by 0.43 percentage points from April (0.57%).
Against May 2025 (0.33%), there was an increase of 0.19 percentage points.
“In spite of the significant decrease in May from April, 0.30 percentage points, the rate is the third highest one since october 2024, when the figure was 0.79%,” explains the manager of the survey, Augusto Oliveira.
From January to May, the cumulative indexes were: 2.44% (materials) and 4.34% (workforce). The cumulative indexes in 12 months stood at 5.01% (materials) and 9.56% (workforce), respectively.
South Region recorded biggest monthly change; Bahia had the highest figure among the states
The South Region, had increases in all the states, among which Paraná stood out (0.65%), recorded the biggest regional change in May, 0.44%. The other Major Regions had the following results: 0.33% (North), 0.39 (Northeast), 0.31% (Southeast) and 0.39% (Central West).
With the increase observed in materials, the state of Bahia recorded the biggest monthly change in May, 0.92%.
