Cattle slaughter increases by 11.2% in Q3 and reaches 7.81 million head

Slaughter of cattle increased by 11.2% against Q3 2021 and reached 7.81 million head. Against Q2 this year there was an increase of 5.8%. These are the first results of the Livestock Statistics, released today (11) by the IBGE. The complete results for Q3 2022 and for the Federation Units will be released on December 7th.

The survey also indicates an increase in slaughter of hogs and pigs and of chickens. A total of 14.37 million hogs and chickens in Q3 2022, which represents increases of 4.4% against the same quarter last year and of 2.1% against the second quarter this year. The result of 1.55 billion chickens represented an increase of 0.9% against Q3 last year and of 3.1% in comparison with the immediately previous quarter.

In Q3 this year, the first results approach 2.12 million cattle carcasses, with increases of 11.1% against tbhe same quarter a year ago and 9.2% against Q2 2022.

The cumulative weight of carcasses of hogs and pigs amounted to 1.33 million tonnes. That means an increase of 3.8% in relation to the third quarter of 2021 and an increment of 1.4% in relation to the immediately previous quarter.

Chicken carcasses amounted to 3.73 million tonnes in Q3 2022. That represented an increase of 2.2%, both from Q3 2021 and from Q2 2022.

Acquisition of milk and production of hen eggs fall in the annual comparison

Preliminary results indicate that the acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (federal, state or municipal) in Q3 2022 was 6.0 billion liters. This figure represents a decrease of 3.4% versus the volume registered in Q3 2021 and an increase of 11.1% from Q2 2022.

The production of hen eggs reached 1,01 million dozen in the third quarter of 2022. This result represented a drop of 0.2% from the same period a year ago and an increase of 1.4% against the same quarter in Q2 2022.

The tanneries investigated in the Quarterly Survey of Leather – those responsible for at least 5,000 whole pieces of cattle rawhide per year – reported to have received 7.89 million whole cattle rawhide pieces in the third quarter of 2022. This amount means an increase of 5.4% both against Q3 2021 and against the immediately previous quarter.
