Influenced by materials, construction prices rise 1.21% in April

Construction prices rose 1.21% in April, up 0.22 percentage points from March (0.99%). It is the highest rate since August last year. Even so, the index accumulated in the last twelve months was 15.00%, below the 15.75% registered in the previous twelve months. In the year, the indicator reaches 3.52%. In April 2021, the overall index was 1.87%.
The data are from the National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) released today (11) by the IBGE.
“This increase was influenced by the prices of materials, which had been showing a rate below 1% and returned to register a high index, 1.86%, being the biggest change since August 2021. Compared to the previous month, there was a significant increase of 1.38 pp. When compared to the April 2021 index (3.14%), we have a drop of 1.28 pp”, explains Sinapi manager Augusto de Oliveira.
In April, the share of labor force, with a rate of 0.24%, and only two increases, fell by 1.51 pp in relation to March (1.75%), returning to the level of the February. Comparing with April of the previous year (0.18%), there was an increase of 0.06 percentage points.
The national cost of construction, per square meter, was R$1,567.76 in April, R$944.49 of which related to materials and R$623.27 to labor force. In March, it closed at R$ 1,549.07.
Paraíba has the highest increase, followed by Rio Grande do Norte
Paraíba was the state with the highest monthly change, 4.57%, followed by Rio Grande do Norte, with 3.64%. “Although the two highest rates among the states are in the Northeast, due to salary increase in the professional categories, the Central-West (1.51%) presented the highest change among regions, for the second consecutive month, due to the significant increases in the sector. of materials from their states”, observes Mr. Oliveira.
The other regions showed the following results: 1.28% (North), 1.09% (Northeast), 1.13% (Southeast), and 1.43% (South). The regional costs, per square meter, were: R$ 1,570.98 (North); R$ 1,468.90 (Northeast); R$ 1,624.46 (Southeast); R$ 1,637.91 (South) and R$ 1,572.30 (Central-West).
“In April, the steel segment stood out after a few months of stability, even showing a drop. We had 20 states that had an increase in the rebar and steel tube segment. Also noteworthy in April were products such as cement and aggregates, stone and sand, which showed increases in several states”, concludes the Sinapi manager.
