Susana Cordeiro Guerra is the new president of the IBGE

The name of the new president of the IBGE, Susana Cordeiro Guerra, was published in today's (Feb 11) edition of the Official Gazette of Brazil. The inauguration ceremony has not been scheduled yet.   

Transition started last Friday morning, Feb 8, in a meeting between Susana, the Minister of the Economy, Paulo Guedes, and the former president of the Institute, Roberto Olinto, in Rio de Janeiro (RJ).  On that same occasion, Olinto was invited to remain in the staff of the Institute, holding a position yet to be confirmed.

Susana is an expert in the fields of reform of the state, decentralization and strengthening of organizational capacity of the public sector, and was an economist at the World Bank, with experience in the governments of Asia, Africa and Latin America. In Brazil, she worked as a visiting researcher for the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea), the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) and PUC-Rio.

The new president of the IBGE is a PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and has a master's degree from Harvard University.
