Registration is open for “Introduction to Data Science” course provided by ENCE

The National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) is providing an extension course entitled com Introduction to Data Science. Registration for the class of 2024 of is open up to May 05. The target audience of the free are persons interested in learning the fundamentals of data science and its applicability to real-world environments.

One can register at https://ence.ibge.gov.br/index.php/nupesq/cdbdia, where they can find additional information on the course and a registration form, the list of required documents and the e-mail for registration. The accepted ones will be confirmed by May 16. A total of 60 vacancies are offered and a higher education degree is required for participants.

The course will start on May 21, with 45 hours subdivided into seven weeks. It includes synchronous online activities, such as classes and debates, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 am to noon, and asynchronous activities of reading and research. /p>

Paulo Tostes and Verônica dos Santos are the professors in charge of the course. These are the course topics:

  • Data Science fundamentals – Importance and definition
  • Basic languages and tools – Data handling basics
  • Collection and cleaning of simple data
  • Exploratory data analysis and visualization
  • Use of visualization tools for interpretation of data
  • Introduction to statistics
  • Basic concepts and practical application

Learning pathways

The course Introduction to Data Science is part of the learning pathway Data Science, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (CBDIA), a project by ENCE/IBGE that will provide other courses within the same thematic area. The next three courses are expected to cover big data and public statistics for public policies and confidentiality of information. Other similar pathways are being developed by Ence and will be launched soon.
