IBGE 90 External Dialogues program continues and organizes round of meetings in Brasília

In a new round of meetings under the IBGE 90 External Dialogues program, the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, participated in Brasília, last Tuesday (23) in the opening session of the IV Regular Meeting of the Social Participation Council, an advisory board to President Lula. Coordinated by the Presidency of the Republic’s General Secretariat, the council is formed by 68 members appointed by social movements, networks and entities within civil Society from all over the country, in order to discuss major national themes and the work of the federal government for the promotion of social participation.
For two days, the IV Meeting of the Council, held at the auditorium of Planalto Palace, gathers members of the Council and advisors to the Ministers in Social Participation and Diversity. Pochmann joined the situation analysis table, together with the executive secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, KelliMafort, the national secretary of Social Affairs, Marcelo Fragoso, a representative of the National Front in Defense of SUAS, Aldenora Gonzales, a representative of the Unified Black Movement, Simone Ferreira Nascimento, the coordinator for the Brazilian Landless Worker’s Movement, Ceres Luisa Antunes.
In his talk, Pochmann highlighted the change of historical time, the current fast pace of time and the fight over the future of the country and the planet. The climate change, the new demographic regime in Brazil, and the datafication imposed by the Digital Age were some of the challenges mentioned.
“It is a change at a time when social participation is fundamental to create new perspective, with pressure exerted from the basis. The Digital Age has changed the way we Interact, and thinking at present of what the future will bring is a good strategy. There is a new form of underdevelopment of our country, which questions national Sovereignty. If sovereignty does not encompass information, how can we make decisions?” asked the president of the do IBGE.
Pochmann also reinforced that surveys help society analyze and interpret reality “The IBGE has made a great effort to show this new reality, and we are preparing for the second half of this decade a group of 17 new surveys. There are new fronts of dynamism in the country, which must be considered by means of new surveys, to assess, for the impact of environmental issues in the calculation of GDP, called blue GDP, and the new work relations. Brazil can be Much better than it is, and nothing can stop us from making this change, except the fear of doing things differently, of making changes.”
Later that day, Pochmann met with the president of the National Association of Directors of Federal Higher Education Institutions (Andifes) and provost of the University of Brasília (UnB), Márcia Abrahão, to start dialogues aiming at strengthening ties between the IBGE and federal universities, with a possibility of surveys conducted about Brazilian youth and their expectations, among other projects.
“We had an excellent meeting with president Pochmann, we discussed partnerships with federal universities, and next month we may sign a cooperation agreement, to think about the future of our youngsters, analyze data, interests and priorities of youth, to help set public policies for this segment in the country,” said the president of Andifes.
In the afternoon, there was a meeting with the secretary of Planning, Sustainability and Competitiveness for the Ministry of Tourism, with initial discussions about a survey on the potential and regionalization of tourism in Brazil. Later, Pochmann participated in the opening of the meeting of the Observatory for the Environment and Climate Change of the Judicial Branch, at the auditorium of the National Council of Justice, chaired by minister Roberto Barroso, who is also president of the president do Supreme Federal Court.
“A productive day considering the meetings we had that reinforced the IBGE’s position as a central producer of information and data that can be used in the formulation of public policies in Brazil. In the contact with the president of Andifes, representing federal universities, about a possible technical cooperation agreement that may lead to comprehensive surveys about the Brazilian youth, their aspirations and perspectives, thus expanding our knowledge about the challenges of education in Brazil,” said Pochmann.
“Regarding the interlocution with the Ministry of Tourism and the National Council of Justice, by means of the Observatory for the Environment and Climate Change of the Judicial Branch, the IBGE stands out in terms of the integration of data that lead to the improvement of public policies related to tourism economics, and as in the support to sustainability and observation actions for the Brazilian biomes,” concluded the president of the IBGE.
