On June 18, the state of Piauí hosted the seminar “My Partner, My Brazil, Our IBGE”, held in the city of Teresina as part of the commemorative program for the 90 years of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The event took place from 9 am to 12 pm and brought together representatives from public, private and academic institutions in the auditorium of the IBGE State Superintendency.
The initiative aimed to expand dialogue with institutional partners and reinforce the importance of the IBGE in producing fundamental information for public management and knowledge of the Brazilian reality. The seminar is part of a series of meetings promoted in all the Federation Units, valuing local experiences, the work of officials and regional partnerships that contribute to the construction of the Institute at a national level.
During the opening session, the state superintendent of the IBGE in Piauí, Leonardo Passos, highlighted the symbolic nature of the event. “This is a moment of celebration, as the IBGE completes 90 years of existence. Throughout this year, we have promoted several initiatives that bring together our partners, showing that the IBGE is built by all Brazilians. I thank each institution and servants who help to portray Brazil,” stated him.
The manager of Planning and Administrative Management, José Tavares, highlighted the relevance of the participation of partner institutions in the development of the Institute's activities. “We want to thank everyone for coming. The IBGE is recognized for the quality and independence of the services provided. More than celebrating the anniversary, this is a moment to reflect on a collective construction, in which each partner contributes in a fundamental way to the production of information,” told him.
From the perspective of field activities, branch head Raquel Pinheiro emphasized the role of local units in the relationship with informants. “We, at the branches, are closer to informants, such as unions, city halls, data collection stations and accounting offices. Our mission is to be the face of the IBGE in the cities," explained her.
The program also included lectures by representatives from partner institutions. The director of Economic Studies and Statistics at the Piauí Secretariat of Planning (Seplan/Ciet), Diarlison Costa, highlighted the usefulness of the information produced by the Institute. “The IBGE provides us with essential inputs, especially for those who work in state statistical institutions. We follow publications that directly help us in formulating public policies,” stated him.
The professor at the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI), Edna Goulart, highlighted the partnership between the academy and the Institute. “The university is a partner of the IBGE. We use the data in the classroom and move forward together. The IBGE is a Brazilian heritage, and celebrating its 90 years is recognizing that portraying Brazil is only possible with its landmarks and products,” declared her.
Representing Embrapa, administrative technician Paulo Vieira highlighted the contribution of the Institute's data to regional development. “We have a historical partnership. The information produced by the IBGE was fundamental for the evolution of agriculture in Piauí in recent years,” told him.
The event was also attended by representatives from Banco do Nordeste, Caixa Econômica Federal and the Federal Institute of Piauí, reinforcing the diversity of institutions involved in the production and use of statistical and geoscientific information.
