The IBGE launches today a new communication channel that translates statistical and geoscientific information to radio listeners. The IBGE Minute brings two-minute stories every Monday through the Voz do Brasil satellite. The programs are also available for download on the IBGE News Agency and on the National Radio Network website. The premiere of the IBGE Minute takes place in the week that the IBGE celebrates 82 years and that the IBGE News Agency and Retratos Magazine complete one year.

The new vehicle shows the IBGE data in the context of the Brazilian lives, as an additional way to bring the IBGE closer to the citizens. Mônica Marli, the program editor, highlighted that the great differential is to "select figures and explain them from the daily life of a character. As a result, the persons will perceive that the data that we release are present in their everyday life."

Diana Paula de Souza, IBGE´s coordinator of Social Communication, stressed that the design of the IBGE Minute "is an additional way to reach the general public and show that statistics is key to formulate and implement public policies and also an incentive to the exercise of citizenship".

The first IBGE Minute proposes to the public the challenge of naming the extreme points of Brazil in the North and South. It is because Mount Caburaí (Roraima) was confirmed as the Northernmost extreme point of Brazil in 1998, replacing Oiapoque (Amapá).

Since the 1920s, the radio has been one of the widest communication media, informing the population in different points of the Brazilian territory.

New format of the IBGE News Agency

At the same time it launched the IBGE Minute, Social Communication redesigned the IBGE News Agency, with the support of the Center of Documentation and Information Dissemination. The layout of the page was redesigned to streamline the access of the public to the contents. The news will be distributed by teams in order to streamline their search. The Retratos magazine and IBGE Minute will be displayed on the main menu, being also accessible at the end of the page. The social media icons were highlighted at the top of the page. "Since it went live, the News Agency keeps on developing and improving the digital language, which is gradually being built. Our objective is always streamline the access and reach the general public", assessed Diana.
