Gathering nearly 300 experts of institutions of the federal administration to put forward the global indicators to follow up the 17 Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs in Brazil, the III Meeting of Information Producers Aiming at the 2030 Agenda finished yesterday. Organized by the IBGE in partnership with the Government Secretariat, the event was held from April 24 to 26 at the National School of Public Administration - Enap in Brasília (DF).
Roberto Olinto Ramos, President of the IBGE, stressed that the meeting was extremely fruitful and that partnership is a key aspect in this collaborative process: "the construction of an agenda of this kind is based on discussions. This is an important experience, involving tolerance, technical discussions and the capacity to move forward. The institutions have to internalize the discussions so that the groups keep on working to close the indicators, and then involve the civil society in the debate".
The SDG Platform was launched on this occasion, a website describing the first set of indicators, including methodological records, tables, graphs and maps. The SDG Platform informs the status of every indicator, such as those already produced and those under analysis, those that still have no data, those with a global methodology yet to be defined and those not applicable for Brazil. In the restricted area, the workgroups formed by experts of the information producers can share contents and discuss every Goal.

In addition to the president of the IBGE, the opening session also included Francisco Gaetani, President of Enap, Henrique Villa, National Secretary of Social Articulation, Priscilla Rosa Pimentel, Director of Planning, Assessment and Social Matters of the Ministry of Planning, and Ambassador José Antônio Marcondes, General-Sub-secretary of Environment, Energy, Science and Technology of the Ministry of Foreign Relations. The features of the SDG Platform were then presented, as well as the integration with systems like Sidra - IBGE System of Automatic Recovery, Metadata Database, PGI - Interactive Geographical Platform and Inde - National Infrastructure of Spatial Data.
Leaders reinforce Brazilian commitment with 2030 Agenda
For Olinto, the 2030 Agenda "provides the opportunity not only to compute indicators, but also to organize the information to streamline the implementation of public policies. It is a key moment to think about statistics and geoinformation in a more comprehensive way".
In this perspective, the SDGs are also taken into account in the design of the Brazilian Multiannual Plan, as highlighted by the director of the Ministry of Planning: "I am delighted to take part in this process. It is not possible to talk about the Multiannual Plan without the SDGs, and build them together. They have a key role in the strategic planning of Brazil".
The national secretary of Social Articulation told that the SDG Platform can face the challenge of internalizing the 2030 Agenda: "The Agenda is a State journey, not just a government one. We need that each one of us be a vector of the dissemination process. We have great expectation with this new digital platform. I ask everyone to support it and participate in the process".
