With the 0.8% growth between April and May, the national industrial output registers the second biggest positive rate in a row and accumulates a growth of 1.9% in the period, eliminating the decrease of 1.6% seen in March. That is what the Monthly Survey of Industry, released today by the IBGE, reveals.

All economic activities and 17 of the 24 sectors surveyed had positive figures. The main influence was due to the increase in the number of cars and trucks manufactured, the sector had an advance of 9.0% - the highest since December 2016 (10.4%).

According to the survey manager, André Macedo, despite the latest positive results, the Industry is still 18.5% below the output record registered in June 2013.

"This rise of the industrial output needs to be relativized. There has obviously been a pace improvement, but there is still an important distance to be run so that the Industry can offset last year's losses", says André Macedo.

In the last 12 months, the Industry accumulated a 2.4% drop. As to the cumulative index for 2017, there was a 0.5% increase. In the comparison with May 2016, the Industry has grown 4.0%.
