In a partnership with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) opened this Monday (27) the Casa Brasil IBGE COP at the Guamá campus in Belém (PA). The space, which aims at approaching society to the work carried out by the IBGE, was disclosed in an event with the presence of institutional representatives and guests.
Casa Brasil IBGE COP is part of an IBGE´s strategic initiative to reposition its brand and improve the dissemination of geographical and statistical information. According to José Daniel Castro, Coordinator General of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination (CDDI), the purpose is to create an environment that gathers technology, interactivity and accessibility. "The idea is to provide people with a diversified and practical access to information, from giant maps to digital tools, in order to better know Brazil and its regions," highlighted him.

Besides fostering the use of information produced by the IBGE, Casa Brasil IBGE COP aims at creating a legacy for the Amazon region. One of the highlights of the project is the creation of the Amazon Indicators Center. According to the UFPA´s Vice-Rector, Loiane Verbicaro, the center is key to the regional development. "It is impossible to plan effective public policies without reliable data on education, consumption, schooling and other key indicators to understand the local reality," stated her.

Casa Brasil IBGE also focuses on attracting students and researchers, strengthening partnerships with local institutions. Rony Cordeiro, IBGE´s State Superintendent in Pará, reinforced the importance of the space as an integration point between the society and IBGE data. "Our goal is to disseminate knowledge in accessible form, using interactive methods and technologies that connect people with the work we make," highlighted him.
Free workshops and training in digital tools
Aiming at training the public in the use of IBGE´s platforms and data, Casa Brasil IBGE COP will provide free workshops from March onwards. Among the activities carried out in the workshops is the use of the IBGE System of Automatic Recovery (SIDRA), which gathers a wide set of statistical information.
"The training is key for people to learn how to use IBGE data in their daily activities in public administration, academic research or other areas," explained José Daniel Castro.

Engaging of the academic community
Students and researchers attending the event highlighted the importance of the space for disseminating knowledge and strengthening the sense of regional belonging. For Rosicléia Ferreira, a student of Pedagogy at the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA), the environment allows "a deep and real knowledge about the Amazon territory, key to understand our identity and local reality."
With the inauguration of Casa Brasil IBGE COP, the IBGE reinforces its commitment with the dissemination of information and bringing the society closer, fostering digital inclusion, technical training and construction of strategic partnerships for the development of Brazil.
