The IBGE’s Executive Director, Fernando Abrantes, signed, today (August 24), an agreement between the IBGE and the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB), aiming at the implementation of cooperative actions to promote the 2017 Census of Agriculture. The idea is to incentive enumerators’ admittance by rural farmers, from the start of the data collection period, and stimulate the use of information provided by the IBGE, after the release of Census results. The agreement was signed during the 5th Agricultural Outlook Forum South America, held between August 23 and 25, in Curitiba.

The partnership with the OCB is an important action to bring the IBGE closer to informants and users, since more than 1,500 agricultural cooperatives are associate members of the organization. More details about the partnership will be informed on August 29, in a meeting in Brasília for the elaboration of a future working plan.

Attending the meeting, on behalf of the IBGE, were: Antônio Florido, national manager for the Census of Agriculture; David Montero, assistant to the Operational Department of Censuses, and Sinval Dias, head of the IBGE State Branch in Paraná. The OCB was represented by its president, Márcio Freitas, who spoke about “the importance of the Census of Agriculture to planning in the Brazilian agribusiness”.

During the event, which gathered authorities, specialists, rural producers and entities such as the State of Paraná Agriculture Secretariat (SEAB), the Cooperatives of Paraná State (OCEPAR), the Agricultural Federation of the State of Paraná (FAEP) and the Federation of Agricultural Workers of the State of Paraná (FETAEP), participants received promotional material on the Census of Agriculture.
