The industry of Amazonas grew 16.2% in February compared to the same month in 2017, leveraged by the manufacture of electronics such as televisions, personal computers and cell phones. It was the best result among the 15 locations analyzed by the Monthly Survey of Industry - Regional Physical Production, released today by the IBGE.

The upcoming World Cup stimulated the high in the production of TV sets at the beginning of this year, especially in Amazonas, where the Manaus Free Trade Zone facilitates the activity.

"The computer industry usually stands out in the State, but this time the highlights were the TVs, which had already grown in January. The other sectors had an average behavior," explains research analyst Bernardo Almeida, who emphasized that Amazonas accounts for 3% of the country's Industry.

In that same comparison, the sectors of other transportation equipment, such as motorcycles and parts, and beverages, especially syrup preparations, also contributed to the increase in the Amazonian industry. In the cumulative index of the year and over the last 12 months, the production of the state was, respectively, 24.5% and 6.9%, but it fell 5.9% compared to January 2018.

Other results by area

In the comparison with February 2017, other areas also grew above the national average (2.8%): Santa Catarina (6.2%), Pernambuco (5.0%), São Paulo (4.8%), Bahia (3.2%) and Rio de Janeiro (3.0%). Ceará (2.8%), Northeast Region (2.4%) and Rio Grande do Sul (0.3%) close the set of places with positive results.

In São Paulo, the automotive industry continued to grow in January, with a high of 4.8% compared to February 2017. According to the survey analyst, the increases in truck-tractor and car manufacturing were the main highlights: "These sectors are increasing gradually, in an upward trend. It's too early to talk about recovery, because our basis of comparison is still low," concluded Bernardo.
