The IBGE´s team of the Department of Favelas and Urban Communities, in partnership with UN-Habitat, begins this Thursday (16) the workshop on data on Favelas and Urban Communities. The workshop will be held within the scope of the Urban Circuit, an initiative of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) aimed at giving visibility and institutional support to events organized by various actors across the country. The workshop will take place between 2pm and 5pm and will be broadcast on this link.
Manager of Favelas and Urban Communities at the IBGE, Letícia Giannella explained that the objective of the workshop is to bring the population closer to the data produced by the Institute. “We understand that society demands from us a way to bring them closer to the data we produce. So, it is important that we are able to build strategies so that people are able to access data and use them. This is within the international parameters that involve the production of statistics,” highlighted her.
According to Letícia Giannella, the expectations of the IBGE´s Favelas and Urban Communities team are high in relation to the workshop. “It will enable the escalation of this activity and we will be able to disseminate more and more ways of accessing and using data. This is what gives meaning to our work.”
The activity falls within the scope of the partnership between the IBGE and UN-Habitat, which has included, among other actions, the accomplishment of face-to-face workshops of this nature. The workshop will seek to meet the objective of giving scale to these actions that have been more localized, making it possible to reach a wider audience.
UN-Habitat´s data analyst Vivian Silva reiterated the importance of the union with the IBGE. "The partnership is strategic to strengthen UN-Habitat's dialogue with one of the largest producers of data and information in Brazil. The work plan highlights the area of Favelas and Urban Communities and aims to strengthen the production and analysis of urban data through the sharing of methodologies, tools and good practices. Although the partnership has been formalized recently, throughout this year the IBGE has already promoted workshops on data on Favelas and Urban Communities, within the scope of UN-Habitat projects in Brazil, training representatives of civil society and municipal officers," explained her.
