The Brazilian Institute of Geography Statistics (IBGE) relaunches, on Monday (25), the Survey of Innovation (PINTEC). Supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), PINTEC receives funds from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT), operated by the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects, (FINEP), and with participation of students sponsored by the Funding Authority for Studies and Projects, (CNPq).

The survey aims at the construction of indicators of innovation activities in enterprises with ten or more employed persons in the sectors of industry, electricity and gas and in selected segments of services.

The launch event will be attended by representatives of the Presidency of the IBGE, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), Presidency of FINEP and the Presidency of CNPq, besides the IBGE's Directorate of Surveys, gathering important institutional leaders linked to the production of knowlege, innovation and official institutes in Brazil.

Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE, says: “PINTEC is the survey that shows the prevalence of strategic intelligence of the Brazilian state on innovation, for, without sovereign statistics, the country moves in the dark whereas global capitalism accelerates technological advancements.”

This is the eight edition taking place regularly every three years. The new study is based on information relative to the years 2023, 2024 and 2025. PINTEC was developed the first time in the period 1998 to 2000 and had a last publication related to the 3 year period ending in 2017.

Resumption of the surevy after almost one decade expands the role of PINTEC, which is not only a statistical survey but consolidates itself as a strategic infrastructure of intelligence for the development of Brazil. This new edition brings methodological updates aigned with OECD international patterns, incorporates digital and environmental dimensions and green innovation and expands the analysis of topics such as    artificial intelligence and digitization. Furthermore, it promotes integration between innovation data, productivity, funding and technological transformation, strengthens the assessment of industrial policies and intensifies the use of administrative records and integrated databases.

The coordinator of the survey, Andrea Bastos, from the Division of Structural and Thematic Statistics and of Enterprises, considers that “PINTEC 2025 will allow, with more accurateness, the percentage of innovative enterprises in the country, investments in R&D (Research and Development), governmental support, besides impacts and obstacles faced by enterprises.”

The IBGE director of Surveys, highlights the importance of resuming the survey: “Innovation depends on institutional factors such as funding, macroeconomic policies, survey institutes and good governaance structures. in this context, the IBGE, with support from MCTI and Finep, launches PINTEC 2025, and reaffirms the commitment to produce essential information to guide public policies and business strategies.”

The event for PINTEC relaunch will start at 3 pm, at Casa Brasil IBGE, located at Palácio da Fazenda, downtown Rio de Janeiro. Accreditation starts at 2 pm. For onsite participation, please register by e-mail - [email protected] - up to next Friday (22). The  session will be streamed live on Digital IBGE.
