On December 2-3, the heads of 27 IBGE State Superintendencies will meet in Salvador (BA) to discuss the 2026-2030 Census Cycle. The meeting will be an opportunity to discuss preparations for the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, whose pre-test starts on December 1, in six municipalities of four states.

The meeting will take place at Escola SESI, which belongs to the SENAI CIMATEC facilities, which will host, from December 3 to 5, the National Conference of Dta Producers and Users (CONFEST/CONFEGE), having as main objective to develop a proposal for a General Plan for Statistical and Geographic Information (PGIEG) aiming at the Development of Brazil in the Digital Age in the period 2026 - 2030.

The coordinator general of the Center for Information Documentation and Dissemination, Daniel Castro, participated in the meeting for IBGE Superintendents, in Salvador

In this context, the Strategic Meeting of State Superintendents for the 2026-2030 Census Cycle is held close to a world map assembled by the IBGE, with Brazil — and most specifically, Bahia — in the center of the world.

Ex-senator Walter Pinheiro, director of Institutional Relations at SENAI CIMATEC, made the opening speech, and praised the partnership with the IBGE and the CONFEST/CONFEGE being held in Bahia: “The biggest data center in Brazil is called 'IBGE'. Data production and collection of informatio by an institution like this is what characterizes our sovereignty.”

The next participant to speak was the host, IBGE State Superintendent in Bahia. André Urpia thanked the audience for attending the meeting and emphasized the importance of this type of meeting for IBGE to keep on “working, producing and overcoming challenges of a survey such as the Census of Agriculture.”

Then he gave floor to the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann. In his talk, Pochmann highlighted the importance of decentering relevant events such as CONFEST/CONFEGE, to make the Institute closer to geography at national level.

Pochmann recalled that his term as president comes after a period of instability at the IBGE, when the Institute had five presidents in seven years. Having been ahead of the Institute for two years, teams have worked to “guide the IBGE into the future and to recover its leading role at national and international level". The president spoke about the efforts made so that the Institute will lead the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (SINGED), a project intended to integrate databases and contribute to public policies.

“The opportuity of being discussing a huge survey, such as the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, is the result of the current stability the Institute is going through, said the president.”

Fernando Damasco, Census Coordinator, participated in the event

The next one to speak was Fernando Damasco, coordinator general for Census Operations, who explained that the meeting of superintendents will seek to discuss technical, administrative, technological and marketing projects for the Census of Agriculture, besides starting discussions about the 2030 Population Census.

The pre test for the Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture will take place between December 1 and 12, in six municipalities: Juazeiro and Sobradinho, in Bahia; Bacabal, in Maranhão; Alfenas and Grão Mogol, in Minas Gerais; and Nova Friburgo, in Rio de Janeiro.
