Due to limited space, registration for in-person participation in the event's opening, which will take place from 8:00 am to 10:00 am, should be done through a form available on the Conference page on the IBGE Portal (https://eventos.ibge.gov.br/conferencia-soberania-nacional/inicio).

Registration is free and will be open until November 27th, but seats are limited for the panels, thematic groups, workshops, and other activities, and more than half of the seats are already taken.

The conference will take place from December 3rd to 5th in Salvador (BA), at the SENAI Cimatec and SESI facilities. Address: Av. Orlando Gomes, 1845 – Piatã. Theme: A Proposal for a General Plan of Statistical and Geographic Information (PGIEG) for the Development of Brazil in the Digital Age, for the period between 2026 and 2030.

In this final stretch of dissemination, the IBGE is preparing a grand opening for its most important conference, which, for the first time, will take place in Bahia, in Salvador. More than 60 authorities have already confirmed their attendance.

Confirmed hosts and supporters include: Marcio Pochmann, President of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics – IBGE; Jerônimo Rodrigues, Governor of the State of Bahia; Carlos Henrique Passos, President of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia – FIEB; and Walter Pinheiro, Director of Institutional Relations of the Integrated Center for Manufacturing and Technology of the National Service of Industrial Learning – CIMATEC.

Confirmed event partners include: Wilson Paes Cardoso, President of the United Municipalities of Bahia – UPB; and Francisco Ferreira Alexandre, Head of the Superintendency for the Development of the Northeast – SUDENE.

Internationally, the heads of statistics from the National Satatistical Offices of Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela have confirmed their presence, as well as representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The organization is also awaiting confirmation from ministers and the President of the Republic, among other authorities from government bodies (federal, state, and municipal), autonomous agencies, entities, academia, and society in general, from Brazil and abroad.

Organization + Support

Organized by the IBGE, with support from the Government of the State of Bahia, the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB), Senai Cimatec, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Union of Municipalities of Bahia (UPB), the National Conference of Data Producers and Users (CONFEST/CONFEGE) is in its final 10 days of registration, with half of the activities already booked (panels, thematic groups, and workshops). In addition to the program, the conference has an agenda starting on December 1st and 2nd, with an event focused on preparing the pre-test for the next Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture, as well as closed meetings between the IBGE and local, national, and international partners.

Conference will have an official international agenda

The conference will host the Mercosur Specialized Meeting on Statistics (REES), which will be held in Salvador and is part of the official agenda of the Mercosur presidency, currently held by Brazil. The conference will bring together heads of statistics from the National Statistical Offices of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

The program also includes the Amazon Biome panel, which will bring together representatives from the statistical institutes of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, in addition to Brazil.

There will be a special schedule of activities by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

International panels will be translated.

Participation from Brazil and abroad

With more than two thousand confirmed in-person participants, including national and international guests, the conference also features panels, thematic groups, and open workshops—especially activities organized with local partners in the state, focusing on the debate of strategic issues of interest to Bahia.

Who can participate?

The conference is open to all data producers and users, authorities, public and private managers, researchers, schoolars, students, teachers and society in general.

Opening and Closing Ceremonies

The conference organizers remind participants who wish to attend the opening and closing ceremonies in person that registration is required.

Registration is necessary as soon as possible due to the limited seats of both venues.

For the first time in Bahia

The conference will take place from December 3rd to 5th in Salvador (BA), at the SENAI Cimatec and SESI facilities. Address: Av. Orlando Gomes, 1845 – Piatã.

For the first time, the most important IBGE conference—organized since 1968—will be held outside Rio de Janeiro, at a time when Brazil and the world are undergoing a shift in the foundations of innovation.

This action is part of a series of cross-cutting initiatives to the reposition of the IBGE as a leading player in the governance of geosciences and statistics, as well as the interface with the challenges faced by the State and the private sector in the search for official historical, present, and future-oriented information.
