  • Highlights

  • Roudtables and work groups count on guests ranging from the President of the Republic, of the Federal Supreme Court and Congress, ministers to company presidents, rectors and representatives of the greatest big techs in Asia, Europe and in the USA.
  • Free registration ends on 07/20 and can be carried out online, on the IBGE website (ibge.gov.br).
  • From 29/07 to 02/08, the Conference in Rio will bring together more than 500 technicians, scholars, public and private managers, from Brazil and abroad, in six roundtables and more than 25 work groups.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), as the largest and most important official information body in Brazil and one of the largest in the world, calls for the technical thinking of all agents producing and using data to deal with the consolidation of the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data (SINGED).

Brazil's proposal is made in the global context of the Digital Era - fundamentally operated by giant companies, larger than countries, and which, in many cases, increases digital inequality. This inequality takes on new dimensions, even deeper than the traditional exclusion and poverty that were typical of the old Industrial Era.

The event aims at bringing to society documents with proposals prepared by IBGE technicians and servants, to debate the risks of the absence of public regulation. "The sovereignty of the Nations is increasingly compromised. For the second quarter of the 21st century, a new governance presupposes democratic and transparent global parameters, forming the regulation of the digital universe, a possible result of the participatory consultation of Nations", anticipates the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann.

Schedule

The conference will last five days and is expected to be attended by more than two thousand people, with broad discussions about the impacts of the new digital era on society, the economy and the sovereignty of countries. On the 29th, there will be three roundtables discussing the risks and opportunities of the digital era and its interfaces with the State, interactions between the public and private sectors and culture.

On Tuesday, 30th, the central theme will be System Governance with a debate from 9 am to 12 pm. On the 31st of July and 1st of August, roundtables from 9 am to 12 pm will discuss, respectively, “Technology and Data” (July 31) and "Digital cross-cut communication and the risks and opportunities for producers and users in the digital era" (August 1).

Finally, to close the event, on August the 2nd, a consolidated report, scheduled to take place from 9 am to 12 pm, will be presented by working groups' themes.
