The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) started today (8) the welcoming program for approximately 200 new civil servants selected by the Unified National Public Examination (CPNU), at an event held at the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, RJ. The meeting marked the national step of the New Civil Servant Integration Program (PINS), which seeks to foster a collaborative and welcoming work environment to facilitate the adaptation and integration of approved candidates. Regional stages of the PINS are scheduled to take place in all states in the coming weeks.
PINS activities in human resources will be taking place until Friday (11), including group dynamics, integration activities, and lectures on rights, duties, compensation, systems, and administrative routines. Topics such as health, benefits and leave, task-based management, performance evaluation, management tools, and more, will also be presented.

Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE, opened the event, congratulating and recognizing the efforts of the approved ones. "Why are you here? We are all here because we are very important to our country; Brazil needs our work. The work IBGE carries out is fundamental, as public policies are implemented based on observed reality. If we fail to accurately reflect the reality, public policies will likely not be as precise, effective, and efficient. Therefore, our role is paramount. The institution goes into the field, into people's homes. You are agents of the state; we are a special institution," he emphasized.
Marcio Pochmann updated the new IBGE employees on the Institute's strategic projects. "How can a country without data sovereignty plan its future? That's why the IBGE has decided, in this modernization process, to move its database to a public company, Serpro (Federal Data Processing Service), which has a sovereign cloud where data is protected. Another innovation is artificial intelligence. The IBGE, because of data confidentiality, needs to develop its own AI. You are entering this era of AI use, but use it sovereignly. And the final innovative element is the growing importance of data science. This is an exceptional moment. On behalf of all IBGE colleagues, it is a great pleasure to welcome you here in Rio de Janeiro and our colleagues in the other states," reiterated the IBGE president.

Executive Director Flávia Vinhaes recalled the greatness of the IBGE, which operates in all 27 states, with 27 state superintendencies, and 566 municipal agencies. "We have a large number of employees, temporary staff, and many activities taking place simultaneously. For 89 years, the IBGE has been producing statistical and geographic information for the country. It is a very important institute, one of the largest statistics and geoscience institutes in the Global South, and certainly the statistical institute that produces the most publications throughout the year in the world. The IBGE is a great institution; I hope you learn from it, as it has a lot to teach. And I also hope you bring your contribution so that we can move forward together."

HR Coordinator Bruno Taranto Malheiros emphasized that PINS's goal is to welcome new employees in an organized manner, ensuring they understand how IBGE works and get to know the institution they will work for. "Our expectation is that they integrate, get to know each other, and leave here with the most important information for their careers. Apparently, the new employees are very excited to get started, and we are excited to welcome them."
New employees' expectations
Marina Guerra, is from Rio Grande do Sul, lives in Rio de Janeiro and was approved to work in Communications. She emphasized that "the most important thing about our admission is that we are part of this project to rebuild the country and revalue civil servants." Bruno Pereira was accepted for the Planning Analyst position in the Infrastructure Support area and will work in the Information Technology Directorate. He stated that his expectations for the start of his activities are the best possible.
"I was very anxious, but now I'm calmer that we're finally starting. I'm looking forward to meeting the staff, learning how it will work, and the next steps," explained Processing Technologist Maria Giulia Arcanjo da Silva.

Douglas Modesto dos Santos was selected to work at the Geographic Information Technology department. "It's a dream come true. In geography, we always look to the IBGE as a reference. I'm looking forward to meeting the staff, getting to know the institution, really seeing how things work here, and beginning our journey. I hope we can be of great help in our work and in our daily lives," he remarked.
“Working at the IBGE will be fantastic for my career and my life. The IBGE has a strong environmental presence, with the Environmental Census, the Forestry Census, and the Census of Agriculture, in addition to its focus on research, which I'm also interested in. I think it will be very good," stated Bernardo Beluco, Engineer and Forestry Analyst."
"I have a very special feeling. For journalists, being at such a highly respected institution is a dream come true. Being able to get to know and feel like a part of this institution is the most special thing," explained Ana Paula Darvin, a journalist who will work in the Communications department.
"My expectations for today's event are to learn a little more about the IBGE, where our work will be, and which Rio unit we'll be based at. Passing the CPNU was something I really wanted, and being at the IBGE was my second choice, so that says a lot about how much I wanted to be here. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the work will be like," said analyst Poliana Ramos Teixeira.

Coming steps of PINS
The second day (9) of PINS will feature discussions on employee benefits and leave entitlements and how to request them; task-based management; performance evaluation during the probationary period and use of the SDA Performance Assessment; and health.
