The preview of November inflation accelerated to 0.53%, after the index of 0.16% recorded in October. The Extended National Consumer Price Index 15 (IPCA-15), released today (24) by the IBGE, points out that the biggest impacts came from Food and beverages (0.54%) and Health and personal care (0.91%). Next comes the Transportation group, which after the fall of 0.64% seen in October, had a rise of 0.49% in November.

All groups of products and services surveyed had a positive change in November, except for Communication (0.00%), which presented stability. The IPCA-15 accumulates an increase of 5.35% in the year and 6.17% in 12 months, below the 6.85% of the previous 12 months. In November 2021, the rate was 1.17%.

The group Food and beverages increased from October (0.21%) to November (0.54%), influenced by food for consumption at home (0.60%). The increases in the prices of tomatoes (17.79%), onions (13.79%) and potatoes (8.99%) were the most significant. There was also a 3.49% rise in fruit prices. On the side of the drops, long life milk, whose prices had already retreated in October (-9.91%), had a new fall (-6.28%).

Food away from home changed by a similar level (0.40%) to that seen in the previous month (0.37%), with meals increasing by 0.36%, while snacks increased by 0.54%. In October, increases were 0.44% and 0.23%, respectively. In the group Health and personal care (0.91%), the highlights were personal hygiene items (1.76%), mainly skin products (6.68%) and health plans (1.21%).

In Transportation (0.49%), fuels (2.04%) returned to a positive change after five consecutive months of declines. If in October gasoline prices dropped by 5.92%, in November they rose by 1.67%, contributing with the greatest individual impact to the index for the month (0.08 p.p.). Furthermore, the prices of ethanol (6.16%) and diesel fuel (0.12%) also rose. Vehicle gas (-0.98%) was the only one to present a drop among the surveyed fuels.

Also in Transportation, the prices of airfares fell 9.48% in November. In the previous month, they had risen by 28.17%. For this reason, airfares contributed with the strongest negative impact on the index in November. Shareriding apps (-1.04%) and used cars (-0.82%) also stood out.

The acceleration of the Housing group (from 0.28% in October to 0.48% in November) is mainly the result of increases in residential rent (0.83%) and electricity (0.44%). With regard to electrical energy, changes by areas ranged from -0.63% in Belém to 7.44% in Brasília, where there was a 21.54% rise in tariffs for low voltage residential customers, starting on November 3rd. Increases of 5.35% were also registered in Goiânia (4.27%), as of October 22nd, and of 2.07% in one of the concessionaires in São Paulo (-0.38%), in force since October.

The smallest change was registered in Curitiba (0.11%), due to the decrease in meat prices (-3.05%) and airfare (-8.27%).

More about the survey

The IPCA-15 differs from the IPCA, the country's official inflation, only in the collection period and geographic scope.
