At the opening of the event, the superintendent of IBGE in Rio Grande do Norte, Fabiana Fábrega de Oliveira, emphasized the fraternal nature of the meeting and highlighted that the seminar's purpose was to function as a round table discussion. "Good ideas and opportunities arise from dialogues and conversations during breaks," she stated.

Ms. Oliveira highlighted IBGE's mission to "portray Brazil" as fundamental to the exercise of citizenship, emphasizing that the production of statistical and geoscientific information allows for a better understanding of the country's reality and supports public policies. She also stressed the importance of the research conducted by the Institute in this process and mentioned the challenges facing the future Census of the Homeless Population, reinforcing the need for institutional partnerships to guarantee the coverage and quality of the information.

According to her, the partnerships built over the years in the state demonstrate that IBGE does not act in isolation, depending on cooperation and joint construction to fulfill its mission of portraying Brazil through information.

What the partners said

Rogério Vieira dos Reis emphasized that the partnership with the IBGE is not only operational and logistical, but also strategic. He explained that the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), as the central internal control body of the federal government, works to improve the management of public bodies and, in this context, collaborates to strengthen the IBGE. According to him, there are a number of joint projects, especially in the area of ombudsman services, including conducting courses and providing guidance on the proper handling of public demands.

The superintendent also stressed that IBGE's impact on public policies is broad and could be enumerated throughout the whole afternoon. He mentioned the Institute's role in the Integrity, Transparency and Access to Information System and highlighted that the IBGE has reached the highest level (3) in the public integrity maturity model by 2025. For Mr. Vieira, the IBGE is at the forefront of both this agenda and the application of the Access to Information Law, managing to respond to requests in less than 10 days, which reinforces transparency. He also cited initiatives aimed at promoting open government, which widely use the data produced by the Institute. In this context, he highlighted that the data produced by the IBGE are essential, as they accurately reflect Brazilian reality, supporting these assessments.

Jaqueline Costa observed that the data produced by IBGE are precious and indispensable sources of information for the operation of the Post Office throughout the country. According to her, Brazil is a vast and diverse territory, both geographically and culturally, and the mapping carried out by the Institute directly contributes to the improvement of postal logistics. Based on this information, the Post Office can more accurately size its customer service and distribution services, adapting its operations to the characteristics and needs of each region.

She also emphasized the social role of the Post Office, which goes beyond the provision of postal services and acts as an arm of the federal government in the implementation of public policies. In this sense, she highlighted that the company contributes to bringing citizenship, social inclusion, and integration to different parts of the country, ensuring that services reach the most diverse audiences. Ms. Costa also stated that the Post Office considers itself privileged to have access to secure and reliable information from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), which is fundamental for guiding its actions and expanding the reach of its initiatives.

Mércia Assis, from the Superintendency of the Ministry of Health in Rio Grande do Norte, emphasized that it is impossible to provide care and public health in Brazilian territories without the use of IBGE data, especially in a country of continental dimensions. According to her, this information is essential and fundamental for implementing policies, organizing responses, and promoting the construction of quality of life, ensuring constitutional guarantees in the area of health.

Ms. Assis also highlighted the importance of the National Health Survey (PNS), conducted by the IBGE, which offers detailed indicators on the panorama of chronic diseases, childhood vaccination, and territorial vulnerabilities. For her, this syrvey plays a strategic role in outlining the reality of the country, allowing for more effective and targeted actions within the health system.

The event is part of a series of actions planned to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Among these initiatives is a series of seminars aimed at recognizing the various partners who have marked the Institute's nine decades of activity, from both the public and private sectors.
