Slaughter of hogs and pigs and chicken grows in Q3 2021

Hogs and pigs slaughter increased 7.6% and that of chicken, 1.2% in the third quarter of 2021 in relation to the same period in 2020, However, cattle slaughter retreated 11.1% in that same comparison. The data are from the Statistics of Livestock Production: First results, released today (11) by the IBGE.
Compared with the second quarter of 2021, cattle slaughter reduced 2.4%, whereas that of hogs and pigs grew 5.1% and that of chicken increased 0.6%.
On the other hand, the production of cattle carcasses fell 9.4% in relation to the same quarter in 2020, yet it rose 0.4% in relation to the previous quarter, adding up to 1.88 million tonnes produced. In contrast, the carcasses of hogs and pigs and of chicken rose both in comparison with the same quarter of the previous year (8.5% and 4.1%, respectively) and against the immediately previous quarter (4.5% and 0.8%), adding up to 1.27 million tonnes and 3.63 million tonnes, respectively.
Milk acquisition reduced 5.1% in relation to the same period in 2020
The survey also shows that the acquisition of 6.19 billion liters of milk dropped 5.1% compared with the third quarter of 2020 and increased 6.4% compared with the second quarter of 2021.
In addition, the tanning houses surveyed recorded a retraction of 15.4% over the third quarter of 2020 and of 7.3% over the previous quarter concerning leather acquisition, which stayed at 6.96 million pieces.
On the other hand, the output of hen eggs reduced 2.5% in relation to the same quarter of 2020, though it increased 0.8% against the second quarter of 2021, adding up to 994.0 million dozens.
The consolidated results of the Statistics of Livestock Production, bringing data for the Federation Units, will be released on December 8, 2021.
