Quarterly livestock surveys – first results: slaughter of hogs and pigs and chicken grows and that of cattle drops in Q3 2021

The first results of the animal production in the third quarter of 2021 pointed out that hogs and pigs slaughter rose 7.6%, that of chicken increased 1.2% against the same quarter of 2020, whereas that of cattle retreated 11.1%in this comparison.

Compared with the second quarter of 2021, cattle slaughter reduced 2.4%, whereas that of hogs and pigs grew 5.1% and that of chicken increased 0.6%.

6.19 billion liters of milk were acquired, a drop of 5.1% over the third quarter of 2020 and an increase of 6.4% over the second quarter of 2021.

The tanning houses surveyed received 6.96 million cattle raw hides, a retreat of 15.4% in relation to the third quarter of 2020 and of 7.3% over the previous quarter.

The output of hen eggs reached 994.0 million dozens, with a drop of 2.5% in relation to the same quarter of 2020 and a rise of 0.8% over the previous quarter.

Cattle slaughter drops 11.1% over the same quarter in 2020

In the third quarter of 2021, the survey shows that 6.91 million cattle head under some sort of sanitary inspection were slaughtered.  It decreased 11.1% compared with the third quarter of 2020 and dropped 2.4% over the second quarter of 2021.

The production of 1.88 million tonnes of cattle carcasses represented a drop of 9.4% in relation to the same quarter of 2020 and a rise of 0.4% over the second quarter of 2021.

Pigs and hogs slaughter increases 7.6% in the same comparison

13.70 million head of hogs and pigs were slaughtered in the third quarter of 2021, representing an increase of 7.6% over the same quarter last year and of 5.1% over the second quarter of 2021.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses registered 1.27 million tonnes, which consisted of increases of 8.5% compared with the third quarter of 2020 and of 4.5% in relation to the immediately previous quarter.

Chicken slaughter increases 1.2% in the period

In the third quarter of 2021, 1.53 billion chicken head were slaughtered. It increased 1.2% against the same quarter in 2020 and 0.6% against the second quarter of 2021.

The cumulative weight of the carcasses was of 3.63 million tonnes, rising 4.1% in relation to the third quarter of 2020 and 0.8% over the previous quarter.

Purchase of milk falls to 6.19 billion liters

The acquisition of raw milk by establishments under some kind of sanitary inspection (federal, state or municipal) was of 6.19 billion liters. This value showed a reduction of 5.1% compared with the third quarter of 2020, though it showed an increase of 6.4% compared with the immediately previous quarter.

Acquisition of leather reduced 15.4%

The tanning houses reported to have received 6.96 million whole pieces of raw hide in the third quarter of 2021. The purchase of raw hide dropped 15.4% compared with the third quarter of 2020 and 7.3% over the immediately previous quarter.

It is worth pointing out that the tanning houses investigated by the Quarterly Survey of Leather are those that dealt with at least five thousand pieces of raw hide a year.

Production of hen eggs decreases 2.5% in relation to Q3 2020

The production of hen eggs was of 994.0 million dozens in the third quarter of 2021. This result represented a decrease of 2.5% compared with the same period last year, yet an increase of 0.8% in relation to the second quarter in 2021.
