Having 13.7 million tonnes stocked, corn represented the largest volume in the stock of agricultural products in the second semester of 2017, an increase of 63.8% in relation to the second semester of 2016. According to the Survey of Stocks, released today by the IBGE, the stocked grains added up to 31.5 million tonnes, against 24.6 million in the same period of 2016.

"Corn registered a record production in 2017, benefited from good climate conditions and expansion of the harvested area, leading to an expected increase in the stock. Reminding that storage does not necessarily mean that the good is still, but rather waiting for distribution", stressed Adriana Mendes, manager of the survey.

Of the total volume of stocked grains, corn accounted for 43.8%, soybeans, 26.9%, wheat, 12.1%, rice, 6.7% and coffee, 3,1%. Altogether, the five products accounted for 92.6% of the grains monitored by the survey in this period.

The storage of soybeans (36.1%) and rice (48.5%) also increased in relation to the second semester of 2016. On the other hand, the storage of wheat and coffee reduced 28.2% and 23.4%, respectively.
