The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) informs that, after negotiations conducted by the Presidency with the Federal Government, an exceptional extension of the maximum term of contracts for Survey and Mapping Agents (APM) and Data Collection and Quality Supervisors (SCQ) was authorized.

With this decision, contracts that would expire between November 2025 and March 2026 may have their duration extended for up to four years, as long as the expiry date does not exceed December 2026.

The initial request presented by the IBGE provided for a limit of 5 years for everyone, however, after analysis by the competent bodies, the authorized period was 4 years only for this group.

"The Provisional Measure approved by President Lula that expands the employment contract of temporary employees constitutes another important achievement of the Ibgean community in the recent years, as it allows the maintenance of normal activities in the institution's data collection network. It immediately maintains the employment contract of those who are about to complete three years of service. Subsequently, the bill to be sent by the Lula administration should cover all temporary workers. In addition to the recovery of the purchasing power of salaries and the largest public tender held ever, the expansion of the length of stay at the IBGE expresses the commitment of the institution's board to the quality and normality of the production that results from all officers, in particular the recognition of the activities of the temporary workers," celebrated Marcio Pochmann, President of the IBGE.

The Presidency continues negotiating to extend the maximum term of all the IBGE temporary contracts.

This measure represents an important recognition of the relevance of our data collection network, made up of professionals who play an essential role in the production of statistics and geoscientific information in Brazil.

"We sent a proposal to extend the maximum length period for temporary contracts and, due to our urgency, with the end of the validity of the previous tender, the Ministry proposed a dismemberment of the proposal, providing an emergency, by provisional measure, the extension of 569 contracts and forwarding a bill that covers all temporary contracts," explained Flavia Vinhaes, Executive Director of the IBGE.

The areas responsible for hiring will inform the administrative procedures necessary to carry out extensions within the established deadlines.
