In Rio, IBGE will launch new edition of the website Nomes no Brasil

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) will launch, on November 4th at 10 am, in Rio de Janeiro, the second edition of the website NAMES IN BRAZIL, which shows the most common first and last names in the country and by state over time. The event will take place at Casa Brasil IBGE, on the ground floor of Palácio da Fazenda, located at Av. Antônio Carlos, 375, Centro.
Presenting more features and updated data from the 2022 Demographic Census, the new edition of NAMES IN BRAZIL will provide, in addition to first names, a catalog of last names. With user-friendly search tools, the new NAMES IN BRAZIL will show data according to the purpose of the search: the popularity of first and last names by decade, location, geographic rankings, historical data, and even a world map comparing popular first and last names in several countries.
The website launch will be attended by the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, and the technical team in charge of the project. The announcement will also be broadcast through the Institute's social media and on the IBGE Portal, in the Digital IBGE channel. The results will be available on the NOMES NO BRASIL website starting November 4th at 10 a.m.
The IBGE name database covers the entire national territory, a total of 27 Federation Units and 5,570 Municipalities, encompassing 203 million people in 90.7 million housing units, in which the IBGE team recorded the names and surnames of all residents who were present, or who had been absent for no longer than 12 months, on the reference date. NOMES NO BRASIL is based on the list of residents of these households as of August 1, 2022, the reference date of the latest survey.
