Held in Rio since 1968, the National Conference of Data Producers and Users (CONFEST/CONFEGE) will bring together data producers and users from Brazil and abroad from December 3 to 5, 2025, in Salvador. The public press conference to announce and provide details about the event will take place this Friday, starting at 9:30 am, at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of the State of Bahia (FIEB), located at Rua Edístio Pondé, 342 (Ed. José de Freitas Mascarenhas), 1st floor, room 3, Stiep neighborhood.

The team will include Marcio Pochmann, president of the IBGE, and Carlos Henrique Passos, president of FIEB, one of the event's supporting organizations. Other authorities and supporters will also participate. Guests and press should register by email at eventos@ibge.gov.br.

History of CONFEST/CONFEGE

The National Conference of Data Producers and Users (CONFEST/CONFEGE) is the largest national event on statistics and geosciences and one of the most important in the world in this field. The meeting aims at expanding the Institute's dialogue with society, bringing together producers and users of data and statistics produced by the IBGE, as well as at evaluating the processes of production, dissemination, and use of statistical and geographic information, in order to review and improve the General Plan for Statistical and Geographic Information (PGIEG).

Its success depends on the participation of a broad range of stakeholders, comprising the various agencies that produce and use information within the Federal Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches, along with state and municipal statistical and geographic information institutes, and other segments of organized civil society interested in the topic.

To carry out the activities that fulfill this duty, the IBGE held the 1st CONFEST and the 1st CONFEGE in 1968. The second edition of the two Conferences took place simultaneously in 1972. The 3rd CONFEST took place in 1989 and the CONFEGE was not held that year. The 1st National Meeting of Producers and Users of Social, Economic, and Territorial Information, which celebrated the 60th anniversary of the IBGE's founding, led to the 4th CONFEST and 3rd CONFEGE in 1996. As a milestone in its 70th anniversary celebration, the IBGE held the 2nd National Meeting of Producers and Users of Social, Economic, and Territorial Information, encompassing the 5th CONFEST and 4th CONFEGE, which took place in 2006.

In 2016, the 3rd National Conference of Producers and Users of Statistical, Geographic, and Environmental Information (INFOPLAN) was held from December 5th to 9th. The overall objective was to structure an inter-institutional agenda and actions aimed at meeting current demands and building the National Official Information System, based on the mobilization and participation of producers and on users' input.

Starting in 2025, the event was included within the IBGE 90 Years Dialogues project, which aims at documenting the institution's nearly nine decades of operations and develop guidelines for a new IBGE. It discussed Brazil's risks and opportunities in the Digital Era and evaluated the processes of production, dissemination, and use of statistical and geographic information through the consolidation of the National System of Geosciences, Statistics, and Data (SINGED), with the participation of data producers and users.
