Subject: Investigation of Possible Irregularities and Conflicts of Interest

Rio de Janeiro, September 10, 2025 – The Presidency of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) hereby announces that, in a meeting with the Minister of the Comptroller General of Brazil (CGU), Vinícius Marques de Carvalho, held on September 8, 2025, it formalized a request for technical support from the CGU to continue and deepen the investigation into possible irregularities and conflicts of interest within the Institute.

The investigation, initiated in October 2024, based on an anonymous complaint received by the Specialized Federal Prosecutor's Office at the IBGE, focuses on the activities of private companies, which were allegedly acting in apparent conflict with public administration rules.

In addition to SCIENCE (Society for the Development of Scientific Research), the investigation was extended to include other private entities linked to civil servants who allegedly used IBGE facilities and assets improperly.

Since the beginning of the internal investigation, the IBGE Administration has collaborated with the appropriate authorities. The request for support from the CGU aims at ensuring maximum transparency, technical rigor, and impartiality in the investigative process, as well as in the eventual accountability of those involved, reinforcing IBGE's commitment to integrity and ethics in public service.
