Construction prices change 0.26% in December, year closes with rise of 2.55%

Released today (11) by the IBGE, the National Index of Civil Construction (Sinapi) changed 0.26% in December, a rise of 0.18  percentage points (pp) in relation to November (0.08%). Therefore, the year closed with a rise of 2.55%, a drop of 8.35  percentage points in relation to the rate accumulated in 2022. In December 2022, the index had been 0.08%.

“It is the lowest rate since 2014 in the comparison of the time series with exemption of the payroll,” highlights Augusto Oliveira, Sinapi´s manager.

The national cost of construction, per square meter, which closed at R$1,717.11 in November, changed to R$1,722.19 in December, being R$1,001.89 relative to material and R$720.30, to workforce.

The parcel of material changed 0.27%, rising 0.19 percentage points in relation to November and registering the second highest rate of this category in the year, standing behind only to April (0.42%). Considering the index in December 2022 (0.07%), it increased 0.20  percentage points.

“In the year, the cumulative index of the parcel of material stayed at 0.06%, also recording the lowest rate since 2014,” analyzes Oliveira.

Having registered 0.24% and adjustments in two states, workforce also rose, increasing 0.16 percentage points in relation both to the previous month (0.08%) and to December 2022 (0.08%).

“We closed 2023 with results that point out a smaller influence of the parcel of material and a bigger share of the parcel of workforce, though within normal terms. Unlike the years of 2020, 2021 and 2022,” highlighted Sinapi´s manager.

With adjustments in professional categories, Piauí has the highest change

With adjustments in professional categories, Piauí was the state that recorded the highest rate in December (2.52%). In the cumulative index in the year, Amazonas was the state with the highest rate (6.80%).

The Central-West Region registered the highest rise in December. Influenced by adjustments in the professional categories in Mato Grosso, it recorded the highest monthly regional change (0.90%). The remaining Major Regions recorded the following results: 0.31% (North), 0.21% (Northeast), 0.14% (Southeast) and 0.25% (South).

South Region recorded the highest cumulative result for 2023

The South Region registered the highest cumulative figure in 2023 (4.58%). The remaining Major Regions recorded the following results: 4.40% (North), 2.48% (Northeast), 1.86% (Central-West) and 1.68% (Southeast).

The Central-West Region recorded the biggest drop in the cumulative index in 2023 (12.74%). The remaining Major Regions recorded the following results: -8.65% (Southeast), -8.30% (North), -7.54% (Northeast) and -5.90% (South).
