The first week of the 2nd pilot test of the 12th Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Aquaculture was marked by intense mobilization of teams in different Brazilian regions and by a strategic agenda of tests aimed at improving the census operation. Carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the stage aims to consolidate learning from previous phases and deepen the evaluation of the instruments and procedures that will be used in the national data collection.
Over the first few days, enumerators, supervisors and observers worked in selected enumeration areas to represent the diversity of the Brazilian territory, including rural areas, peri-urban areas and traditional communities. In places such as Corumbá (MS), the teams tested the coverage of enumeration areas distributed in different geographic contexts, while, in municipalities such as Viamão (RS) and Irati (PR), the focus also included visits to traditional peoples and communities, expanding the scope of data collection and the operational complexity of the pilot test. The same happened in Irati (PR), Uruçuí (PI) and Rio Verde (GO).
The preliminary balance of the week indicates important advances in the validation of data collection methodologies and the application of questionnaires in the field. The teams were able to test, in practice, new thematic blocks and observe how the informants understood the questions, in addition to evaluating the interview time and the suitability of the approach in different production contexts.
Another central point was the analysis of the operation’s logistics. The movement of teams, the organization of enumeration areas and the dynamics of work in the field were closely monitored, allowing the identification of points for improvement and necessary adjustments to ensure greater efficiency in the data collection.
The week was also marked by moments of continuous monitoring and evaluation. Meetings held at the end of the day allowed the impressions of the professionals involved to be systematized and guide immediate adjustments, strengthening the experimental nature of the pilot test.
