IBGE and UERJ meet to debate joint initiative

The IBGE and the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) had a meeting to debate integration of both institutions, last Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The meeting had as its main objective the signature of a cooperation for the production of statistical data and the development of activities in partnership. That includes a pilot survey about UERJ graduates and their future prospects, a census in the university and the organization of a center for youth indicators. The information generated may be used for the elaboration of policies aimed at the creation of a scholarship program and a digital scientific education initiative.

In the meeting, the president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, met with the university provost, deans, and other members of the central administration. The Institute is planning to expand its relationship with society and therefore, has sought collaboration from universities. Some of the proposals discussed were generating information about university communities and the political, social, economic, and cultural views of the young people there; disseminating information on indicators by means of AI-assisted methods; and support municipalities with data treatment projects that can add to the planning, development and management of public policies.

The meeting was attended by president Marcio Pochmann, the UERJ provost, Gulnar Azevedo, the advisor to the IBGE President, Denis Gimenez, the CDDI CCS coordinator, José Daniel Castro; the vice provost of UERJ Bruno Deusdará, deans Antônio Soares (PR1), Ana Santiago (PR3) and Daniel Pinha (PR4), besides representatives of the Center for Development and Strategic Studies (CEED) and the Information and Situational Studies Center (NIESC), Floriano de Oliveira and Ana Carolina Feldenheimer, respectively, besides chief of staff Marisa Dreyer and the provost advisor Adair Rocha.
