The president of the IBGE, Marcio Pochmann, received this Monday, 19th, at the Institute's headquarters, downtown Rio, representatives of the National Front of Mayors (FNP). The meeting, which also included the participation of the presidential advisor, Denis Maracci, was a first approach between the municipal entity and IBGE with the aim of carrying out, in the future, a technical cooperation agreement on the intensification of the use of statistics already produced, with the possibility of training municipal employees, for example.

For president Pochmann, this open dialogue with the FNP was positive and important, as “it allowed us to deal with a set of themes of interest to create the National System of Geosciences, Statistics and Data, such as, for example, data architecture on mobility in Brazilian municipalities, the underfunding situation of national federalism, the impacts of demographic changes on municipal public management, among other topics that may be covered by the technical cooperation agreement.”

Gilberto Perre, executive secretary of the FNP, states that the collaboration includes discussions on how municipalities can help the IBGE with new surveys and data production. "The IBGE already produces very important data for local management. This institutional rapprochement aims, firstly, at a better appropriation of this data by municipalities. But we are also thinking about developing new agendas, to further improve the relationship between municipalities and the IBGE, both in terms of producing new information and using information already available", concludes Mr. Perre.
