Leveraged by the rise of 15.6% in the production of durable consumer goods, the industry increased 2.8% in February 2018 against February last year. It was the tenth consecutive positive rate of the industrial output, though the less intense since September 2017, when it registered 2.6%.
Having changed 0.2% in February after dropping 2.4%, the result was also positive compared with January. The data came from the Monthly Industrial Survey, released today by the IBGE.
Among the durable consumer goods, a category that encompasses the electric-electronic segment and the car industry, one of the highlights was the increase in the manufacture of TVs. Taking into account all the sector of house appliances of the brown line, comprising TVs, sound systems and alike, the increase was of 41.1% over the same month last year.
"This growth was expected, because there is an expressive production of TVs in the three-month period before the World Cup", explained André Macedo, manager of the survey.
Still comparing with February 2017, capital goods also rose (7.8%), followed by semi and non-durable consumer goods (1.6%) and intermediate goods (1.5%), which remained below the overall index (2.8%).
"In general, the increase in the wage bill, gradual improvement in the employment indexes and reduction of the interest rates in the trade are factors that help to improve the industry over the last months", stated the manager.
