IBGE participates in 49th session of United Nations Statistical Commission

The President of the IBGE, Roberto Olinto Ramos, represented the Institute as a speaker in the conferences related to the tenth anniversary of the System of National Accounts 2008, at the 49th session of the United Nations Statistical Commission - UNSC. Held in New York City between March 6 and 9, the theme of this event was "Better Data Better Lives".

Besides the president, the IBGE delegation comprises the Director of Surveys, Claudio Crespo, Deputy Director of Geosciences, João Bosco de Azevedo, and the adviser of International Relations, Roberto Sant’Anna. Mr. Crespo spoke, together with Mr. Olinto, on the indicators of basic sanitation for the Sustainable Development Goals - SDGs.

In addition to the participation in the plenary sessions, the IBGE arranged three side events. Use of technologies in the agricultural censuses of Brazil and China, in partnership with the National Bureau of Statistic of China - NBS, Generic model of business processes of geoinformation, with the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía of Mexico - INEGI, were the themes presented by Mr. Bosco. The event on the Inter-American Statistical Institute - IASI was carried out in partnership with Argentina, Mexico and Panama.

The president and the adviser of International Relations also participated in a meeting with representatives from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development - OECD, aiming at developing a joint work plan to enable the entrance of Brazil in the organization.

The meeting with the official statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, aimed at developing a cooperation agreement including priority subjects like big data, training, use of administrative records and integration between statistics and geography.

Mr. Olinto and Mr. Sant’Anna also participated in meetings on technical cooperation with representatives from the UNSC, in the area of Environmental Accounts, and the United Nations Population Fund - UNFPA, in the area of Population Census.
